The Tien Shan central range is in Kirghizistan, an ex Russian republic between Kazakistan and China.
The country average altitude is 2600 metres, this means that the Country, as big as Austria and Hungary together, is mainly mountainous. The Khan Tengri and the Pobeda mounts, both 7000 metres high, have been the destination of summer expeditions for years, while during the winter season they are uninhabited because of the descent of shepherds from high pasturages to the villages and of the closure of passes (3500 metres high and more) due to the snow.

Faithful to the name given to this 2011 winter expedition, the two alpinists and their driver have been driven mainly by the attraction they felt for the beauty of the mountains they saw day by day. So was born a discovery experience that is probably impossible to be lived in the European mountains nowadays. The result of this journey is the film "Somewhere in Tien Shan" that is shown by Paolo Rabbia and Giacomo Para on request.
